Our pink orchids are living phalaenopsis plants in a square white ceramic pot: always four flowering stems, two tall fuchsia ones at the back and two smaller soft pink ones in front, set in green moss.

Give it on Mother's Day or a birthday, or put it on a desk at work, for someone who would rather water a plant than change vase water.

We pair two pinks on purpose. The large fuchsia flowers sit on the taller stems, and a paler orchid with smaller blooms grows lower down, so the pot looks full from the front. Each stem is clipped to a dark stake, and little balls of lime green moss dress the stakes. Buds at the tips open one by one after it arrives.

Once a week is about right for watering: wait until the moss feels dry, and never leave water standing in the bottom of the pot. Give it bright light out of direct sun.

Prefer white? See the two-stem white orchid plant. The same magenta also comes as cut orchids in a box with pink dahlias and white roses. There is just the one size: four stems in two pinks.
