Into a fresh green and orange pumpkin our florist sets wine and peach dahlias, deep red and orange roses, yellow spray roses, purple stock, lavender orchids and pink lisianthus, with a mini pumpkin on a pick on top. The flowers stand in a liner with wet floral foam inside the pumpkin, so the pumpkin itself stays dry.
Put it at the center of a Thanksgiving table, or bring it as a birthday gift in autumn for someone who likes a lot of color.
The flowers run warm on one side, with orange, gold and peach, and cool on the other, where purple stock and red roses take over. The stock gives the pumpkin a spicy-sweet scent, and the orchids add a waxy, open shape among the round dahlias. Because the pumpkin is fresh, keep it out of direct sun and away from a heater, and add a little water to the foam every day or two. We make it in the fall only.
